The Forest is the Therapist
Shinrin-Yoku which translates as 'forest bathing' originated in the 1980s in Japan as a way to promote the health benefits of exposure to natural environments and to increase support for conservation. Inspired by Shinrin-Yoku and practiced worldwide, Forest Therapy is a slow meditative walk in a natural setting following a standard sequence of elements. Held with the assistance of a guide trained to facilitate the participant’s focused attention to their sensory experience, science has shown that physical and mental health benefits of one guided forest therapy experience can last up to seven days.
